Setting up a Law Firm / Legal Studio / Law Practice within the Territory of the UAE:
Lawyers wishing to bring their Practice to the UAE must hold a valid Law Degree and acquire a License from the Ministry of Justice and register themselves.
To provide Legal Services within the UAE outside the Courts a Lawyer must Register with the Department of Legal Affairs.
The UAE houses a Dual Court System, notably, Civil Courts and Sharia Courts. On top of the Dual System each Emirates houses a separate Federal Court.
The Federal and Local Courts are the Dual Courts in Dubai with the Supreme Court housed in Abu Dhabi.
The three stages to the Dubai Court System are as follows:
Legal Practices generally focus on areas within Commerce, Construction, Corporate, Energy, Finance and Banking, Commercial Properties, Disputes and Litigations.
Lawyers based in the UAE can work as part of a Company, in Partnerships or as Sole Practitioners.
Opening a Law Firm within the Mainland Territory of the UAE, notably Dubai, would entail a Local Sponsor or Partner. This Partnership may be Active or Simply a Sponsor who is paid an Annual Fee of Sponsorship of the Law Firm within the UAE.
For Partnerships the Local Partner must hold a Degree in Law and have a Law License which is valid in the First Instance Court.
